SAT Prep

The age-old nemesis of high school students is the SAT. Each year, thousands of students take the standard SAT in hopes of getting into the college of their dreams. With expert, personalized instruction and proven test strategies, our goal is to help students maximize their scores and get into the college they desire.

What to Expect

  • 12, 24, or 36 hours of direct classroom instruction
  • Full-length SAT diagnostic tests
  • SAT prep course handbook
  • Supplemental exercises & practice problems
  • Flexible scheduling options
  • Optimal student:teacher ratio of no more than 8:1

The SAT tests students on three important subject areas (Reading, Writing and Language, and Mathematics). The SAT is a challenging test for several reasons. The Reading section tests students’ stamina as well as their abilities to understand a variety of passage types and vocabulary concepts. On the Math section, test takers must navigate through a number of concepts from arithmetic, algebra, and geometry combined with problem-solving techniques. And the Writing section tests students on grammar and usage concepts as well as timed writing abilities.

SAT PREP THAT WORKS
On average, students who take our SAT prep course increase their test scores by over 200 points! That’s because our classes combine expert materials with in-person instruction by dedicated instructors to deliver information in a way that students understand, helping students boost their scores and confidence. Our SAT prep courses are held in small, personalized group sessions at our center in Bowie, Maryland or individual sessions In-Home or via Skype.

Advanced Curriculum
Students’ work from our SAT prep workbook, a carefully crafted curriculum of SAT strategies, practice exercises, homework assignments, and vocabulary assessments designed to cover every facet of the test. We also provide supplemental exercises to help students target individual test areas and improve specific SAT skills.

ACT Prep Courses

All colleges accept the ACT as part of their standardized test measure meaning more and more students are taking it. Why not hone your English, math, reading, and science aptitude and excel? The ACT is offered to and mainly taken by juniors. You can repeat the exam in the fall of your senior year to improve your test scores.

At Math ETC, our programs include individualized instruction in our state-of-the-art tutoring facility where students take at least one full-length proctored exam, homework to help their understanding, and have regular conferences to go over progress. All our programs are guaranteed to help you gain confidence in your own abilities and test-taking skills, increase your preparation, and achieve the highest scores possible, allowing your dream colleges to be within reach.

Our premier program is tailored to the individual student, accounting for his needs and goals. This is our most thorough program available with the curriculum and timeline tailored to meet personal goals and needs. Students can choose to work in all subjects or focus on their weakest subjects.

The 36-hour program is intended for students with a time-crunch who want to focus on all subject areas. Included in the thirty-six hours are nine hours of practice tests and personalized instruction in all testing subject areas. If students want to focus on one subject and have very limited time to prepare, the 12 or 24-hour program is ideal for them.

ACT Prep

When applying for admissions to independent schools and boarding schools, it is common for students to be asked to take standardized tests such as the SSAT and ISEE test. For many students, these tests are their first exposure to what is considered to be high stakes testing. For this reason, it is normal for parents and students to both feel anxious and uncertain about the outcome of the exam.

SSAT Prep

When applying for admissions to independent schools and boarding schools, it is common for students to be asked to take standardized tests such as the SSAT and ISEE test. For many students, these tests are their first exposure to what is considered to be high stakes testing. For this reason, it is normal for parents and students to both feel anxious and uncertain about the outcome of the exam.

Our one-on-one and group courses involve guidance to help relieve the stress felt by both parents and students while also increasing confidence so that every student can achieve their fullest potential on testing day. After practicing during our SSAT/ISEE prep course, students will know exactly what to expect on their big day and view the actual test as a chance to show off to everyone what they have learned.

At Math ETC Learning Center, we know that age makes a big difference in a child’s learning style. For this reason, we would never tutor a younger child using the same techniques as a high school student. Instead, our preparations involve using a world-class curriculum that specifically targets the concepts covered by the ISEE and SSAT. We also hand pick our tutors for their high level of qualifications and ability to work with their specific age group. In addition to providing each student with a personalized plan of attack for the test, we also take a strong academic approach that promotes curricular achievement. In our SSAT prep course students improve their vocabulary along with their basic reading and comprehension skills while learning how to write a clear and comprehensive essay. They also improve problem solving and computation skills in math.

Our trained education professionals have devoted many hours to developing our current ISEE and SSAT curriculum to ensure that every student, regardless of their ages and abilities will thrive. You can call us today to register your child for a complimentary SSAT or ISEE diagnostic test that will help you find out what to do to improve their scores and alleviate the stress associated with the test. Over the years, we have helped many families handle obstacles such as test anxiety that impact their outcomes. Today, our program directors use their expert knowledge to create a testing plan this is perfect for your child and provide answers to any questions you have about how Math ETC test preparation is different from other types of test prep strategies.

Benefit from Complimentary Practice Tests:

Math ETC Learning Center offers multiple opportunities for you to take advantage of complimentary practice tests that will improve your child’s familiarity and comfort with their specific test. Our practice tests are official and designed to assess your child’s potential performance as they prepare for the actual test day. There are several ways to arrange for your practice test that allow you to select the best one for your child’s needs.

1. Visit the Learning Center for a Proctored Test
Our clients receive free unlimited proctored tests, and we limit new families to one of each type of test to be used as diagnostic testing.

2. Test at Home by Requesting One to Be Mailed
If you cannot bring your child to the office, we can send you a copy of the practice test along with instructions for proctoring. This way, you can recreate the proper testing conditions at your own convenience.

3. Schedule a Private, Proctored Practice Test
We can also work with your schedule and send one of our proctors to your residence, or you can schedule a private, proctored test.

HSPT Prep

The examination entails the following topics: language, verbal skill, vocabulary, quantitative skills, mathematics and reading comprehension.

What makes Math ETC Learning Center the choice for HSPT preparation?

For an affordable charge, both in person and phone support is available for tutoring during and after taking the Math ETC Learning Center course. Many of students have used the Math ETC Learning Center to successfully pass the HSPT and get into the private school of their choice.

It is advised that students take advantage of HSPT preparation courses to ensure they are ready for this all-important test. To shorten your search for information, read below some common questions about the HSPT.

How long is the HSPT?
With breaks, the exam can take up to three hours to complete.

What’s the best time to register for the exam?
Registration is managed by individual schools. Contact the one you are interested in to find out when you should register. You should also look into Math ETC private school test preparation so that you give yourself sufficient time to study under experienced hands.

When and where can one take the HSPT?
There is no structured administration for the exam. The private school you want to apply to will have this information.

How would I register?
Registration is handled by the individual private schools. Contact an administrator at the school you are interested in to get this information.

What is the cost for taking the HSPT?
Typically, the cost of the exam will be included in the application fee. But this is not always the case. There are schools that will charge a one-time fee to take the exam. Fees can vary, so it’s best to contact the school to find out what the fee is and how it will be paid.

How long after taking the HSPT will it be before I get my scores?
This varies from school to school. You will have to contact the school to find out when scores may be available.

Can I take the HSPT multiple times?
Most schools will only allow you to take the HSPT once. While there may be schools that let you take the exam again, it is recommended you only take the exam once. According to the Scholastic Testing Service, taking the test more than once will not help your chances. Even if you do better the second time, guidelines require the lower score be used.

If you take a private school entrance exam preparation course, you decrease the chances you’ll need to take the test more than once.

What is considered a good score?
An average score is 600 points and up, putting the student above the 80th percentile, but each individual school has their guidelines for a desirable score.

Is there a specific time I should start preparing for the HSPT?
Every private school has its own application process and exam schedule. Check with your private school of choice to see when the application process begins. You should plan to prepare for the exam at least two months in advance. This gives you time to sign up for Math ETC HSPT preparation and gives you plenty of time to study and practice.

How much math will I need before I start preparing for the HSPT?
You should have a basic understanding of mathematics in general, but Math ETC will cover arithmetic, elementary algebra, and basic geometry.
